Mercury/Mariner
does not code the model year into the model number or serial
number. The model year is determined
by the first serial number sold during the model year. Example: Merc 115ELPTO with serial
OT123456 could be 2001 and OT123457 could be 2002.
PLEASE NOTE: Mercury no longer provides a method to
designate the model year. Starting
in 2005 they put a production date on the transom bracket. Mercury has determined that you do not
need to know the model year. The engine serial number is the
information required to accomplish parts look up. If you do not feel this is appropriate we
encourage you to contact Mercury.

Johnson
and Evinrude Model year codes
Johnson outboards prior to
1969-1980. The year is in the Model
number (not the serial number) Example: Johnson 1969 115hp = J115EL69S.
The number highlighted here in red is the year.

Evinrude outboards 1969-1980. The model year is in the Model number as
the first digit after the horsepower.
Example: Evinrude 1975 75hp=E75543B. In this instance
the red “5” is the model
year.

Johnson/Evinrude
outboards from 1981 forward uses a two letter code derived from the word Introduces to establish the model year. See matrix below.

Please note: Honda
outboard model numbers and serial numbers do not provide model year
information. There is nothing on the
motor that will provide the model year of the engine. Please do not email us requesting model
year information as we are unable to provide any method of indicating the
model year. Honda has determined that you do not need that information.
